What is breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation surgery involves the technique by which a woman's breasts are made larger. This is performed by using an implant, usually filled with saline solution, to increase the size of the breast. The implant is placed under the chest muscle (pectoralis major muscle) or above the muscle via several common incisions. Breast augmentation is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under general or deep sedation anesthesia at our offices in Maryland and Northern Virginia.

Is it safe?
Each year, thousands of women undergo breast augmentation surgery. Currently the surgery is performed using saline filled implants. Silicone gel implants had been used, but are under study to answer questions raised about their safety. To date, multi-center randomized studies do NOT show any increase in health risks due to the use of silicone gel, but for now, such breast implants are only available in medical research studies.

Surgery always involves risks, such as bleeding, infection, or implant failure. Modern technique and carefully performed surgery minimizes risks but cannot guarantee a perfect result every time. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes deposits of excess or unwanted fat from specific areas of the body, face, or neck. Liposuction is performed by surgically inserting thin metal cannulas, which remove excess fatty tissue via suction pressure, under the skin. Common problem areas such as the hips, legs, neck, chin, and tummy are well treated with liposuction. Is liposuction a type of weight loss surgery?
Liposuction is not a substitute for total body weight reduction. For that, still, diet and exercise are the best options. Liposuction is best used in situations where weight loss alone has not corrected resistant pockets of excess fatty tissue.

Is it safe?
Liposuction is the most common plastic surgery procedure performed in the United States. When performed correctly, it carries few risks. The vast majority of our patients have no complications at all. However, issues such as bleeding, infection and asymmetry are known complications and we strive to minimize the risks of liposuction as much as possible at our locations in Northern Virginia and Maryland.
