Five Facts To Know Before A Mommy Makeover

Mommy makeovers, or as I like to call them, “postpartum restorations”, continue to grow in popularity. More women are now combining some of the most common cosmetic surgeries to improve their physique after giving birth. And because mommy makeovers are so popular, you can find lots of information about them online, but not all of it is true.

So, I have decided to share these facts with you, which should give you some idea of what to expect if you are considering this procedure.

Fact 1: You Can Combine Any Number Of Surgeries

As I mentioned, childbirth can take a toll on a woman’s body. The way pregnancy and childbirth change your body will help you decide on the surgeries you want for your mommy makeover. Fortunately, there are a number of options when it comes to combining surgeries. Here are some of the most common that I perform:

  • Breast Augmentation, Reduction, Breast Implant, Breast Lift
  • Liposuction & Tummy Tuck (Mini or Full)
  • Brazillian Butt Lift
  • Labiaplasty
  • Facelift

Fact 2: You Can Have The Surgeries Performed Simultaneously

It’s very common to combine your chosen surgeries into one session time.

Scheduling them separately will mean taking up more of the patient’s time, and the people around them. While there are limits to the amount of surgery that can safely be performed in a day, a combination surgery, where appropriate, has big benefits for the patient: one recovery phase, large cost savings, and increased time efficiency.

Fact 3: You Shouldn’t Get A Mommy Makeover Immediately After Childbirth

Many new mothers are eager to get back to their pre-pregnancy body as soon as possible, but the body needs time to heal. As such, you should not put your body through more stress until it has fully healed, so a mommy makeover is out of the question until further down the line.

The type of surgeries you have in mind will also dictate your timing. Take breast surgery, for example. A woman’s breast will continue to change until the breastfeeding stops. This means that if you’re planning on including a breast procedure as part of your mommy makeover, you’ll need to wait until 3 to 6 months after you’ve finished breastfeeding.

If you’re not breastfeeding, you should wait until 3 to 6 months after delivery. Although some women wait at least one year before undergoing a mommy makeover. This is common when including a tummy tuck, which is best done when patients are back at their normal weight and the uterus has shrunk back to normal.

Something else to keep in mind is future pregnancies. It’s best to wait until you’re done having babies before any kind of cosmetic surgery, as pregnancy will change the body and potentially wipe out the results of a procedure.

Fact 4: A Mommy Makeover Will Not Give You Instant Results

Results from the surgeries will vary, depending on the type of surgery, the individual, and their lifestyle. You may not see full results for several months after the surgery, but results should be long-lasting. Women can maintain their Mommy Makeover by staying on track with a healthy diet and exercise plan. A healthy lifestyle goes a long way.

Fact 5: A Mommy Makeover Is Not Limited To Mothers

While mommy makeovers get their name from new mothers who want to restore their bodies after childbirth by having combined surgeries, any woman can get one.

In fact, many women would benefit from this combination of procedures, such as anyone who has undergone extensive weight loss. Many of our patients even take it a step further and also undergo non-surgical or minimally invasive procedures or treatments. These include skin tightening treatments, and injectables (Botox and Fillers).
